The Homework Coach teaches students to improve their organization and time management.
One of the things that I do as a homework coach and tutor, is help students become better organized and improve their time management skills, so that they get ALL of their homework done on time. I spend time communicating with teachers and parents so that everyone is on the same page and knows what needs to be done and when it is due. I try to go above and beyond what other tutors do.
The tutor keeps you on track
Students often tell me that they do not have anything to do. I try to help them see that this is not true. There is always something that they can be doing to become a better student, to learn more, be better prepared for tests and succeed in school.

About Chris Ioakimedes, the Marin Homework Coach and Private Tutor
I have been tutoring students in Marin County and San Francisco for 20 years. I began tutoring when a fellow classmate in an algebra class at the College of Marin suggested that I should be a tutor.
Unlike most tutors who specialize in a certain subject area, like math, science, physics, chemistry, English or test prep, I tutor most subjects for middle and high school students, including basic math, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. I tutor reading, writing and speaking English, English as a second language, ESL, Italian, Modern Greek and Spanish, history, astronomy, biology, chemistry, geology, physics and economics.
In addition to tutoring, I teach in home, homeschool, private classes and lessons for middle school, high school students and adults. The classes can mirror what they are learning in their current classes in school, or make up for classes which they are not enrolled in. I often teach private classes and lessons to students during the summer months to make up for prior classes and prepare for future classes.
I help students get organized, learn to take better notes and be more confident preparing for tests.
I have experience working with at risk youth, children with learning disabilities, dyslexia, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)., as well as inmates of San Quentin State Prison. I have worked as a tutor in after school tutoring programs at Kent Middle School in Kentfield, Miller Creek Middle School in San Rafael, Novato High School and at the San Francisco Boys and Girls Club, Don Fisher and Mission Club Houses. I have worked as a tutor for Marin County Children’s Mental Heath Services. I have taught as a substitute Spanish teacher at Marin Primary and Middle School in Larkspur. As a substitute, I taught kindergarten, first grade, second grade, third grade and PE at Marin Country Day School in Corte Madera. I taught multiple subjects in English and Spanish at the John Muir Charter School in San Rafael. I am now the Spanish teacher at Saint Hilary School in Tiburon. I am the head coach of Saint Hilary’s Mountain Bike Team and an assistant coach for Marin Catholic’s Mountain Bike Team.
My goal as a tutor is to help you become a better student so that eventually you will no longer need a tutor.
I am a graduate of Sir Francis Drake High School (Archie Williams High School), in San Anselmo, the College of Marin, in Kentfield and the University of California, Los Angeles, UCLA. At the College of Marin, I received three A. S. Degrees, Earth Sciences, General Foreign Languages and Liberal Arts. I also received a Machinist’s Certificate. At UCLA, I received a B.A. in Comparative Literature (English, Greek, Italian and Spanish) and a minor in Italian Literature. While at UCLA, I taught Beginning Modern Greek for the Hellenic American Student Organization. I have also been a student in many classes at the University of California, Berkeley and San Francisco State University, SFSU.
When I’m not tutoring, or teaching, I like to ride my bicycle on Mount Tamalpais and fish in the San Francisco Bay.
Reviews:
“Chris has worked with both of our kids over the past few years and we feel very fortunate to have found him. He is very knowledgeable in a wide variety of subjects and knows how to explain things in a way that our kids could understand. He was also able to identify where the kids needed extra support and give us some tools to help. Chris has a very warm and approachable manner that put us all at ease. Our son was extremely resistant to the idea of a tutor, but after the first meeting he completely changed his tune. We highly recommended Chris!” Linda K., Fairfax
“Chris is a great teacher! He is professional, flexible, knowledgeable in so many subjects, and makes learning fun and interesting. We have been really happy having him work on math with our son.” Alicia G., San Rafael
“Chris connected well with my son from their first session. Thanks to him, my son not only learned, he excelled. Thank you. 😊” Sharon G., Novato
