## Math

## Basic Math Tutor

Basic math is the most important. It is the math that all of us use every day. Without mastering basic math, continuing through algebra, geometry, trigonometry and into calculus is very difficult. I teach addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and fractions.

It was a fellow class mate in an Algebra class at the College of Marin 20 years ago that suggested that I become a tutor. I have been tutoring for 20 years now. In the process, I have seen how difficulties with basic math hinder students at all levels.

Memorizing multiplication is very important. I use times tables, but I have found that they can be overwhelming for some students. To solve this, I have developed my own way to teach multiplication which unlike times tables focusses on one number at a time.

## Algebra Tutor

Once basic math is mastered, students can learn algebra to use functions and variables. How to make graphs to predict and show outcomes of functions.

## Geometry Tutor

Geometry is all around us. Drawing, puzzles and building things makes geometry fun. I apply geometry to all of the objects around us. I teach students how they can use geometry to design things like bicycle frames and houses including rooves and stairs.

## Private and Small Group Lessons

I teach private and small group math classes. I often do these classes during the summer months to make up for prior classes in which the students could have done better and to prepare for their next math classes in school. With some schools limiting which subjects they teach each semester and enrolling students in math every other semester, I have been teaching math classes to students during the semesters in which they do not have math in school.

Private math classes enable students to go at their speed. It enables me to concentrate the lessons where they are really needed and apply the math to things that they find interesting.
